Tame Impala Isn’t Worried About AI Music: “I’m One of the People That Doesn’t Really Give a St”

Few conversations have dominated the music industry this year quite like artificial intelligence. With the rise of AI artists such as Velvet Sundown, powered by platforms like Suno, many are left wondering if we should be concerned about this technological shift.

The Concerns Surrounding AI in Music

AI sceptics have raised several issues:

    1. The increasing number of AI artists on streaming platforms like Spotify.
    2. Potential diminishing reach for real human artists.
    3. Questions about copyright laws being bypassed by major AI companies to train their models.

However, not everyone shares these concerns. Kevin Parker, frontman of Tame Impala, has made it clear that he’s “not worried.”

Kevin Parker’s Perspective on AI Music

In a recent interview with The Hot Hits and Hit Network, Parker expressed his thoughts on the current state of music production:

“I do feel like the music that I hear is getting more and more perfect, and more pristine.”

He acknowledges that while production quality is improving thanks to technology, he prefers music that retains a raw edge:

“So for me I just like making music that’s a bit dirty, a bit scungy. That’s kind of what I want to listen to.”

Parker's candid statement sums up his stance perfectly:

“I’m one of the people who doesn’t really give a shit [about AI]. I’m not worried.”

A Busy Year for Kevin Parker and Tame Impala

This year has been particularly busy for Parker due to the excitement surrounding Orchid, his brand Telepathic Instruments’ first synth. After its sellout second drop in May, Orchid saw its global release in September and was featured prominently at this year’s ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event).
